Emaan Mahmud

Emaan’s work is inspired by her hometown of Karachi, the natural world and memory. Her practise is highly meditative, using a diverse range of different paint types and the textures they create, to capture the eclectic sensations of her memories. Her paintings evoke the awe we feel when swimming in the ocean at it’s very bluest, or perhaps standing below the grandest of mountains. Experimenting with combinations of conventional styles and movements styles - action painting, contemporary drawing, abstract expressionism and collage – she is forever in the process of discovering and developing her own unique aesthetic.
Emaan is a painter living and working in Karachi, Pakistan. She graduated with a B.F.A from the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, graduating with a major in Printmaking and a minor in Photography. She has been widely exhibited in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Dubai, including shows at Full Circle Gallery, Karachi (2014) and Khaas Gallery, Islamabad (2012). Additionally, Emaan setup the ‘St.art’ project – a street art therapy project aimed at uplifting the spirits of street children and providing them with an avenue of expression in the form of art.
